Make:  Pilgrim Hat Cookies
       Ingredients:
             Vanilla frosting
             Yellow food coloring
             32 miniature peanut butter cups (unwrapped)
             32 fudge-striped cookies
             32 pieces orange mini Chiclets gum or orange tic-tac
        Directions:
             In a small bowl, combine frosting and enough food coloring to make the frosting yellow.
             Dip the top (wide part) of the peanut butter cup in yellow frosting.
             Center the peanut butter cup on the cookie forming a pilgrim hat. Add a buckle using frosting and a piece of Chiclets gum or a tic-tac.
             Repeat with the remaining peanut butter cups and cookies.

Fine Motor Skill:
Write "My Family" on the bottom of a blank piece of paper.  Have your child draw his/her family.  Your child will be doing this activity periodically throughout the curriculum.  Write the date on the back of the picture and save the picture to compare each time.  The pictures should become more detailed with time.

Art- A Child's Thanksgiving Tree

To make your own Thanksgiving Tree you will need the following materials:

sheet of white poster board
pencil
tempera paint, markers or crayons
construction paper in red, yellow and orange
markers
scissors
glue or tape
glitter glue (optional)

Trace hand and cut out.  Write something your thankful for on each hand.  Glue hands on a poster board or card stock to form tree leaves, color a tree trunk.

Gross Motor Skills Activity
Ribbon Dancing - Attach ribbons, streamers or scarves to the ends of a ruler, dowel, or paper towel holder.  Hold the ribbon swirling it from side to side, up and down, etc.  Be sure to switch hands.  This activity improves hand-eye coordination.

Phone Number
Continue to sing the song learned last week to help your child learn their phone number.  This week place individual numbers (flashcards, magnetic numbers, or index cards) in the correct order of your phone number.
Art- N is for necklace
Let the children make a necklace using Fruit Loops and/or Cheerios.

Place a few items on the table in front of the child.  Have the child turn away while you take one object away.  Have the child tell you what object is missing.

Popsicle Stick A’s: get 3 popsicle sticks and show the child how to make a big A.  Either glue them together when you are done with the lesson or just attach some velcro so the child can create it over and over!  Remind the child that "A" is shaped like a triangle.  Show with popsicle sticks that a big A is shaped like a triangle! Create an "A" and say "A" and then move the stick down and say "triangle." 
Writing Skills-   Horizontal line
Coloring-
 Sort - Halloween candy or various items by shape – Always have your child explain to you why they sorted the items in their chosen piles.
 Have your child help empty the dishwasher.  Help them sort things on a low table or cabinet if they cannot reach to put items away.
Math Sorting by shape – circle, rectangle, etc.
Review Shapes-

Discuss what and why we have noses. Make a collage of noses cut from pictures. Use scented markers to draw pictures of noses and identify the smells.

Fine Motor Skill:
Hide little beads in a large piece of play dough or putty.  Using their index finger, have your child find the beads.  Using their thumb is "cheating" and not working the weaker muscles.

Using practice phones, demonstrate how to answer the phone

Ask a relative or friend to call to give the child extra practice

- Make Handprint Turkeys (example on November calendar) - construction paper, colors or paints - Either draw around your child's hand and allow them to color the inside or paint the hand and create a hand print.  You may want to begin the Handprint and Footprint Calendar for a great Christmas gift. 
Character Education: Do something nice for someone else to show them friendship – make a card, cookies, or visit a friend in need
Gross Motor Skills Activity -
Play Twister - While the real game will probably be too hard now, have fun matching colors and body parts.
